Our Process

Our Process

At Stout Custom Homes we've streamlined our process to give our customers the best possible building experience. Each of the following steps occurs once a lot of land has been purchased.

Step 1: Consultation

This is where the exciting process of bringing to life your home design begins! In our first consultation we will start developing and scoping the design at a high level. Here we consider various key aspects such as the size of your home, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, whether it will be one or two stories, the architectural style, essential materials, the positioning of the home on your land, and your budget. If you prefer not to design your home from scratch, we have design ideas and may have an existing floorplan that can act as a jumping off point.

Step 2: Sign Purchase Agreement

Once the design decisions are finalized, we can now accurately price the cost of building your home, taking into account all the necessary materials, labor, and other factors. Once you approve the pricing, you will sign our purchase agreement to officially initiate our work on your project. If, during the pricing stage, it becomes apparent that the initial build price exceeds your budget, we can easily make adjustments to the materials, architecture, or floorplan to meet your financial requirements.

Step 3: Financing & Finishes

Now that we have determined the budget for constructing your home, the next step is to arrange financing. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to make final decisions on finishes and fixtures, including countertops, flooring, lighting fixtures, and hardware for the kitchen and bathrooms. If you require guidance in making these choices, we can provide direct assistance or refer you to a designer who can help, ensuring that you have the support you need every step of the way.

Step 4: Architectural Review

Before the construction process can begin, your plans must receive approval from an architectural review committee. This committee is tasked with ensuring that your plans are up to building codes and comply with the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) of your community. Our team will handle the submission of your plans and provide you with regular updates on the progress.

Each phase of the construction process brings us closer to the next, including excavation, foundation pouring, framing, HVAC installation, insulation, drywall, flooring, painting, cabinet installation, trim work, fixture and appliance placement, and landscaping. We will keep you regularly updated on the timing and progress of each stage.

Step 6: Final Walk-Through

Upon completion of the construction on your home, you will be invited to conduct an official walk-through to thoroughly inspect every aspect of the house. During this process, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns to ensure that the final product meets your satisfaction. Once all inquiries and details have been addressed, it's time for the final step.
